Description: 
Rubina, a collaborative e-commerce and marketing platform to advance the work of women artisans around the world, has a unique opportunity for an intern looking to grow their leadership skills in the role of editor for a growing online magazine. Rubina is seeking a highly motivated, organized and creative individual to grow and manage its online magazine, Rubina Magazine, for the 2013-2014 school year. This year-long internship is a unique experience for anyone looking to start a career in the field of journalism and communications. Through her 2013 summer internship with Rubina Magazine, our previous intern was able to work with inspiring women around the world, have one of her original pieces reprinted in the Seminole Tribune, and edit a piece that was selected for the frontpage of Wordpress.com, resulting in a 400% increase in readership.

Rubina Magazine is a biweekly publication for those who are curious, cultured, and fiercely bold. The magazine contains stories about design, ethical fashion, issues relevant to women, traditional craft, intercultural experiences and travel, and socially-responsible business. Stories are usually published in relation to the current featured product on the Rubina e-commerce site.

Responsibilities include:

    • Create relevant feature stories and columns
    • Create and maintain the editorial calendar
    • Recruit and coordinate with contributors
    • Edit submissions from contributors
    • Upload edited submissions and other media (images, video) using our Wordpress site on a bi-weekly basis

The ideal candidate is studying journalism, working on a school publication, and/or has a keen understanding of the online publication process. They MUST be organized and able to work without constant supervision and direction. It is a huge plus if they have proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop and Illustrator) and video editing skills, but is not required. Ideally, the candidate is located in New York City, however not required as this job will primarily be done off-site.

What this position will help the candidate gain:
This internship is unpaid. College credit is an option. Other than great experience managing a real online publication, the intern will also benefit from a bi-weekly mentorship by Rubina’s CEO.

Packaging Design Intern, Rubina

Rubina, a collaborative e-commerce and marketing platform to advance the work of women artisans around the world, has a unique opportunity for a design student looking to use their creative skills and build their portfolio in the role of Packaging Designer for a growing ethical fashion retailer. Rubina is seeking a highly motivated, organized and creative individual to design packaging and marketing materials in a school-year-long internship position. This is a unique experience for anyone looking to test their creative ideas in a real world design environment, gain leadership skills, and launch their career in the field of graphic design.  

Responsibilities include:

    • Design packaging for Rubina Collaborations on ShopRubina.com. This will include general packaging as well as creative pieces to tell the story of the artisan and drive the buyer back to the website to learn more about the product.
    • Design packaging for products set up in the (soon-to-be launched) Rubina Market on ShopRubina.com.
    • Design printed marketing materials for events and other needs.
    • May need design assistance in posting the content online for our market products and featured products in the shop (working knowledge of Shopify is a plus)
    • May need design assistance in graphics for the online magazine, Rubina Magazine working with our editor (working knowledge of WordPress is a plus)

The ideal candidate is studying graphic design at a top design school, has demonstrated creativity and high quality packaging and marketing materials through a strong portfolio of student or other work, and has a keen understanding of different materials and creative packaging techniques (eco-friendly the better). They MUST be organized, able to work without constant supervision and direction, and be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop and Illustrator). It is a huge plus if they have proficiency in web design and video editing skills, but is not required. Other requirements: one school-year commitment, work remotely on your own computer and software, and must be available for a weekly meeting at the Rubina studio in the Brooklyn Navy Yard on Sundays.
